Our Degree, Diploma and Certificate Programmes focus on both academic and professional training. Our lecturers are knowledgeable, in tune with the times and approachable. Some work in the area they teach in. Others have spent time in industry. All are up to date with the latest developments in their fields.
We are HANDS ON and RESPONSIVE in the way we teach:
- Our Engineering students work on collaborative projects with industry partners such as Intel. They learn how to solve problems on simulated and real life issues. Learning is exciting for them as they grapple with finding out information, discuss the problems and justify and present the best solution.
- Our Design students seek out corporate clients to work on projects such as designing brochures, websites and corporate identity systems. In the process, they learn about meeting client needs, marketing themselves besides exploring their creative and critical thinking. Their clients include Penang companies, restaurants, Penang State Gallery and the Penang State government.
- The way you learn will vary from course to course. Our Nursing, IT, English and Engineering lecturers use Problem-Based Learning in their courses. Our Business and Hospitality students learn using case studies. All our courses use project-based learning in addition to lectures, demonstrations and tutorials.
- We encourage learning through the use of social media tools such as Blogs, Facebook and virtual learning environments. Our Mass Communication students are experimenting with webcasting as part of their assignment requirements.
- We work with our reputable university partners such as Keele University, Northumbria University from the United Kingdom, IMI University Centre from Switzerland, Murdoch University from Australia and Universiti Sains Malaysia to deliver renowned degree programmes.
- Our TEACHING EXCELLENCE DAY on 4 December 2009 was a collaborative effort by our lecturers to showcase their use of the latest methods and technologies and we shared our knowledge with 26 secondary school teachers and management staff in Penang.
- We so BELIEVE in the effectiveness of oral communication and group work that we have made it a COMPULSORY component of our coursework assessment in 2010.
- All our students now work in groups to research, find information and then present to an audience of their peers and lecturers in EVERY subject. Our students are becoming more self confident in front of an audience and are able to think and answer questions on the spot!
- Our facilities are top notch with lecture theatres, specially designed studios, classrooms and workshops. We have different laboratories set up for different courses, all with the intention of serving you better
- We are here to help you at every stage of your study.
- We provide academic counselling and remediation if you have difficulties with some subjects
- We provide opportunities like participation in projects and competitions either locally or abroad for our students who wish to excel and make their mark in their studies.
- We provide job placement and internship services. Our IT, Mass Communication and Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts Departments are especially strong in these areas.
- We ask our alumni to participate in our programmes as speakers and mentors to our students.
